The St. Vincent DePaul Society’s annual Walk for the Poor will be held Sept. 25 at the Mandeville lakefront on the corner of Jackson Street and Lakeshore Drive. There is no rain date. The date is set by National SVDP on the Saturday closest to the Feast Day of St Vincent DePaul, Sept. 27.

This year’s walk will primarily involve the Northshore SVDP Conferences with the participation by the South-shore Conferences as well. Participating Northshore Conferences include:

St Peter in Covington, St Anselm in Madisonville, Our Lady of the Lake and Mary Queen of Peace in Mandeville, St John of the Cross in Lacombe, St Jane de Chantal in Abita Springs, Our Lady of Lourdes and St Genevieve in Slidell and Holy Family in Franklinton

Anyone, at any age, may walk, but they must first register. Registration is free. Walkers will obtain sponsors from friends, family, co-workers and businesses.

The money raised will go directly to the SVDP church conferences to assist the local poor. There is no dollar minimum for sponsorship.

Registration forms may be obtained from any of the above named SVDP conferences. Late registration will occur on the walk site, between 8:30-10:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Following, food, water and soft drinks will be provided by the Knights of Columbus from Mary Queen of Peace, Our Lady of the Lake and St. John of the Cross.

There will be music, and opening remarks will be made by Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere. Festivities will end at noon.
