A Slidell man, with a history of drug convictions, was sentenced to 99 years in jail after he was found guilty of armed robbery
Robert Jenkins, 33, was arrested by the St.Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office in June 2008 after he stole a man’s wallet and cellular phone while he was armed with a gun. The victim followed Jenkins after the robbery and called police.
Responding officers used a K-9 dog to locate the victim’s phone, which was located at the scene where Jenkins was arrested.
A jury found Jenkins guilty on April 6, and on Tuesday, District Judge William Crain determined that his prior drug convictions, which include possession charges for marijuana, crack cocaine and powder cocaine, qualified him to be sentenced as a career criminal.

"B. Whoever commits the crime of armed robbery shall be imprisoned at hard labor for not less than ten years and for not more than ninety-nine years, without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence."
Add to that Mr. Jenkins had three prior convictions, felonies, and he qualified as a Career Criminal earning him a max sentence.
