A Mandeville man was arrested Sunday afternoon after loosing his cool and shooting a 12-guage shotgun in his backyard.

At 4:18 p.m. officers with the Mandeville Police Department were dispatched to 787 Claire Drive in Beau West subdivision after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.

When officers arrived on the scene, Michael Housey, 41, told them he had discharged his shotgun in his backyard “to blow off steam” after getting into a verbal dispute with his wife.

Officers recovered four spent shotgun shells in Housey’s yard.

Eric Gulino, spokesman for the Mandeville Police Department, noted that no one was injured and the only property damaged belonged to Housey. However, he said, it is illegal to discharge a firearm inside the city limits of Mandeville.

Housey was arrested and charged with illegal use of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property and disturbing the peace.
