LSU AgCenter to sponsor Covington garden show

The LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Master Gardeners of St. Tammany will hold a two-day spring garden show March 20-21 at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington. The event will feature plant and garden supplies for sale, a plant health clinic and children’s activities.

“This year’s show will offer more plant materials for sale from local nurseries for homeowners who may have lost some of their landscape during the January deep freeze,” Rusty Batty, LSU AgCenter county agent and show coordinator, said.

LSU AgCenter specialists and Master Gardeners will present seminars on rose care, beneficial and pest insects, weed control and deer-resistant landscaping.

On March 20, LSU AgCenter horticulturist Dan Gill will discuss colorful and evergreen plants, and Patrick Youngblood from New Orleans Botanical Gardens will discuss rose care and maintenance.

On March 21, LSU AgCenter specialists Alan Morgan and Kiki Fontenot will discuss home vegetable gardening.

The show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Admission is $3 per person, with children 12 and under admitted free. Proceeds fund an agriculture and horticulture scholarship.
