Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines finished 3-1 in the Trey Altick Louisiana Prep Classic held March 4-6 in Monroe.

NCS at press time downed Delhi 13-0 in five innings on Thursday with Zac Hawkins ripping a two-run homer in the fourth inning. The Wolverines plated six runs in the second inning and erupted for seven more in the fourth en route to the shut out. Brandon Cazaubon (1-0) tossed a three-hitter. He struck out four and walked three. Seth Laigast and Grant McGovern both went 2-3 for the Wolverines.

NCS pounded Sterlington 17-4 on Friday on the strength of Jake Long’s grand slam homer in the Wolverines’ 11-run seventh inning. Long went 3-5 with five runs batted in and scored three times. Ryan Pfefferle went 2-3 with two runs batted in and scored a run.

Hawkins and Chris Craighead collected two hits each in four plate appearances in the Wolverines’ 14-hit attack. Hawkins (2-1) earned the victory going six innings allowing five hits. He gave up four runs (3 earned), while registering nine strikeouts with two walks. Carter Fitzgerald tossed one inning of hitless relief with a strikeout and two walks.

NCS played a double header Saturday with the Wolverines dropping a 1-0 decision to Evangel. Bryan Picou (1-1) was saddled with the loss despite only allowing one unearned run on just two hits. Picou recorded 12 strikeouts with three walks. Evangel pushed across the game’s lone run on a passed ball in the fifth inning.

The Wolverines were limited to just two hits both singles by Pfefferle and Hawkins.

NCS came back to defeat Menard 6-5 in Saturday’s second contest with Long belting his second home run, a solo shot in the sixth. Long also contributed an RBI single in the third. Entering the bottom of the seventh, NCS trailed by two runs. With one out, Jordy Bloddsworth, who went 2-4 lined a base hit to left and Picou followed with a walk. Hawkins ripped a single to right to load the bases for the Wolverines. Pfefferle stepped in and stroked a single past third, plating Bloodsworth and Picou. On the play the left fielder misplayed the ball and Hawkins hustled all the way around from first to tally the winning run.

Pfefferle also produced an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Bloodsworth, who had doubled and advanced to third on a Picou single.

Laigast started for the Wolverines and went three and a third innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Jared Duckworth relieved him going two innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts and one walk.

Reliever Tim Broussard (1-0) picked up the victory tossing one and two-third innings of hitless, scoreless ball to help secure the victory.

Broussard notched two strikeouts, while issuing four walks.
