With bands playing, bright spotlights, and high hopes, Slidell and St. Tammany leaders cut the ribbon Friday night on the $5.4 million Slidell City Council Administration Building.

After seven years at the helm of what is considered one of the best school systems in the state, Superintendent Gayle Sloan expressed her desire to step down effective June 30. “Serving as Superintendent for St. Tammany’s public schools has been a privilege for me, as I grew up here, graduated from one of our fine public high schools, lived almost my entire life in this community and came up through the ranks of dedicated employees. This has been much more than a job to me. It has been a labor of love,” Sloan said in her letter to the school board.

Mandeville to require ethics training for employees
In an attempt to prevent future problems similar to the ones that landed former Mayor Eddie Price in hot water, the Mandeville City Council has adopted an ordinance requiring all city employees to attend two hours of ethics training annually.

Darren Sharper signs DVDs at Slidell mall
Many people braved the rain outside and the long line inside the Northshore Square Mall in Slidell to get their Super Bowl XLIV DVD autographed by veteran safety Darren Sharper Tuesday. Three die-hard Saints fans the first in line at 6:45 a.m. for the noon event. The store showed a Saints’ video for fans while they waited. One of those early risers was Olga Wilson who stood in line for five hours. Her diligence paid off, though. Wearing a Darren Sharper football jersey, Wilson was able to get five DVDs signed by Sharper. The DVD was on sale at the FYE store inside the mall.
