The Rev. Jim Long, pastor of the Vineyard Church of Slidell, graduated to higher glory Sunday, March 7, 2010, around 8 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Long; two children, Jamie Long and Melissa Milazzo; two grandchildren, Trinity and Tyler Milazzo; two brothers, Johnny and Bill Long, and his mother, Mary Leonard Long. He is also survived by the most wonderful church family possible.

Jim and Betty served the community since 1974 first as pastors of Trinity Presbyterian Church for eight years, New Life Community Church and finally Vineyard Church of Slidell – part of the Association of Vineyard Churches – since 1985. Jim served many people as a pastor and shepherd in the community for 36 years and has left a legacy of love and service to continue for years to come.

There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. today at the Vineyard Church, 61025 U.S. Highway 11, Slidell. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Vineyard Church of Slidell P.O. Box 1356 Slidell, LA 70459. Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River is in charge of arrangements.
