Archbishop Hannan won all three games in the St. Amant Tournament as the Lady Hawks improved to 10-1 on the season heading into yesterday’s home game with West Feliciana.

Hannan opened tournament play Friday earning a thrilling 6-5 victory over Ursuline Academy after spotting their opponent five runs in the top of the first.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kimberly Nilsson, who went 2-4 with a run scored, doubled to open the inning. Kim Kirsch, who collected three hits in three at bats, produced a sacrifice fly advancing Nilsson to third. Maddi Shelton walked and then stole second. Erica Yaeger grounded out to the pitcher with both runners holding. Meaghan Finch delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single past shortstop scoring Nilsson and Shelton to produce the victory. Shelton beat the throw home from left field to secure the win. Dallas Hebert (5-0) picked up the complete game victory allowing five runs (four earned), while scattering seven hits. She registered eight strikeouts with just one walk. Hebert also went 2-4 with a triple. Kirsch drove in a run for the Lady Hawks and also stole two bases.

Hannan won a double header Saturday. The Lady Hawks edged Iota 1-0 without the benefit of a hit. Brooke Laigast walked to lead off the seventh and advanced to second as Victoria St. Philip was safe on a fielder’s choice grounder. The next hitter struck out. Nilsson hit a sacrifice fly to center, advancing both runners. Laigast eventually scored the game’s lone run on a passed ball. Shelton (4-1) went the distance for the shut out victory allowing just one hit. She posted 11 strikeouts with one walk.

Hannan closed out the tournament winning its pool play taking a 6-4 victory over South Terrebonne behind homers from Nilsson and St. Philip. Hannan jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Nilsson’s three-run blast in the first inning. South Terrebonne added a run in the bottom of the first. St. Philip hit a solo shot in the second and finished with two hits and scored two runs. Nilsson also collected two hits adding a double. Kirsch picked up two hits with a double and scored a run. Hebert remained perfect on the season at press time gaining the complete-game decision as she scattered eight hits, while allowing four runs (two earned). Hebert struck out eight and walked three.
