Helen Kikendall, 81, of Hattiesburg, Miss., passed away March 1, 2010, at Forrest General Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jerry Kikendall of Hattiesburg; son, Randy Kikendall of Baton Rouge; three sisters, Virgina Loggins, Evelyn Loggins, both of Cut Off and JoAnn Thrasher of Pearl River; brother, Arron B. Loggins of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dessie Loggins.

Helen was an accountant, who retired after 30 years and also a retired postal worker. She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. today at the Moore Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home, Hattiesburg, is in charge of arrangements

LEDFORD

Clinton Ledford, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his grandson’s residence in Pearl River. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pearl River, and an avid collector of antiques and other items.

Ledford is survived by a daughter, Janice L. Ledford; a sister, Naomi Balio; three grandchildren, Sonny Hodgson, III, Ricky Hodgson, and Lisa Hodgson; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Ledford; parents, Homer Ledford and Rita Posey; and brother, Aaron Ledford.

Funeral services will start at 10 a.m. today at D.T. Williams Funeral Home 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River with the Rev. Alvin Waller officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment to follow at Hickory Memorial Gardens, Pearl River, where he will be laid at rest next to his wife of 70 years, Estelle Ledford.

MYERS

Elves Graden Myers, 89, of Talisheek passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2010. He was a member and chairman of the Deacons of Evans Creek Baptist Church and he was a deacon at Talisheek Baptist Church from 1957-2004 until its closure. He was a welder during World War II, and a service mechanic and tree improvement for Crown Zellarbach. He also owned and operated Myers Service Station in Talisheek from 1955-1974.

He is survived by four children, Donna Trascher, Sharon Frierson, Carl William Myers, and Glenn Cristodero; seven grandchildren, Tonja, Eric, Rodney, Jennifer, Misty, Casey, Karalee, Trevor, Courtney and great-grandchildren, Dustin, Austin, Breanna, Dillon, Tanner, Emily, Colby and Kailey. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Myers; granddaughter Wendy; great-grandson Caleb; brother Alton T. Myers and three sisters Edwena Myers Lennox, Orelia Stockstill, and Mamie “Tee Wee” Millet.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Visitation is from 6-10 p.m. Interment will follow at Carpenter Cemetery, Bush. Brother Clifford Anglin. Brother Carl Myers and Brother Danny Reed will officiate.

PENNINGTON

Zachary Todd Pennington, 21, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010. Zachary was born July 14, 1988, in Slidell to Todd Westin Pennington and Linda Gail Butters Galloway. He loved spending time with his dad outside whether it was canoeing, camping, fishing, riding 4-wheelers or just hanging out.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Linda Gail Galloway; and step-grandmother, Margie Ponson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his father and stepmother, Todd and Jennifer Pennington; brothers, Joshua Pennington (wife, Kellie) and Blake Pennington; maternal grandparents, Paula Butters and Randy Thompson and Edward Butters; paternal grandparents, Georgia and Les Chapman, Roger and Jeanette Pennington and stepgrandfather, Joe Ponson Sr. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be at noon tomorrow at New Jerusalem Praise and Worship Center in Slidell.

PENTON

Herman Joseph Penton Sr., 66, of Picayune, Miss., passed away Wednesday, March 03, 2010.

He is survived by three sons, Herman Jr., Joseph Edward and Walter Jason Penton; two sisters Vera Necaise and Betty Yvette Lerch and ex-wife Elaine Penton plus many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John J. (Dooley) and Mary Dawes Penton; son Robert Wayne Penton; brothers Marvin Robert and William Henry (Bill) Penton and sister Ida Arsane Provost.

Funeral services are at 4 p.m. tomorrow from the chapel of D.T. Williams Funeral Home 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River, with visitation from 2 p.m. until service time.

WALSH

Patrick Dennis Walsh, Ph.D, a longtime resident of Slidell, passed away unexpectedly at his home Feb. 28, 2010. Pat was born and raised in New Orleans, one of five children born to the late Edward and Zoe Rita Walsh and was the beloved husband of Tere Mares for 32 years.

He was a loving father to his children, Christen Roberts, her husband Jeff and the late Matthew Patrick Walsh. He was also a very loving grandfather to Carolina Joy Roberts and his granddog Yaeger. Pat will forever be remembered by his brothers Michael, Timothy and Charles, his loving sister Patricia Walsh, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.

Pat graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 1978 and a master’s degree in criminal justice in 2002. In 2006, he also earned his doctorate in the administration of justice from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was an assistant professor at Loyola University New Orleans in the Department of Criminal Justice and was recently awarded the position of Associate Chair for the department. He was a forensic criminologist having over 25 years experience in the private security and loss prevention sectors, specializing in internal theft, robberies and the thought process of robbery offenders.

He was also a state-licensed private investigator, a graduate of the Reid Interview & Interrogation School and a former licensed polygraph examiner. Pat was a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Science, the American Society of Criminology, the European Society of Criminology, the Homicide Research Working Group and the International Association of Investigative Psychology. He was a published author of over 20 articles in journals, textbooks and encyclopedias relative to his professional career.

Pat loved to entertain family and friends with his many stories and crazy antics.

He was full of endless knowledge and was forever putting others’ needs ahead of his own. He inspired so many by his enthusiastic teaching style; his willingness to go the extra mile for anyone with a desire to learn or to better themselves. He was deeply passionate about law enforcement, ethics, history, football and his number one role, that of family man. For many years, he coached his children’s baseball, softball and soccer teams; volunteered at school events; and could always be relied upon to “make it happen.” Pat touched the lives of many people with his kindness and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

A Mass will be celebrated at noon today at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1050 Robert Boulevard, Slidell, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Internment will be held at a later date for immediate family.
