PJP II downs

H.L. Bourgeois

Pope John Paul II senior Andre Damiens came through on the mound and at the plate for the Jaguars in a 13-4 win over H.L. Bourgeois at home Wednesday.

At the plate, Damiens went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs batted in and three runs scored. On the mound, Damiens (1-1) got the win, throwing five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with three strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter.

Jacob Hughes doubled twice and drove in a run. Matt Navarro was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Kyle Salsbury posted a hit and three RBIs. Tim Turner doubled and logged a run batted in, while Dustin Dampier and Blake Bonnaffons each tallied a hit, scored twice and had an RBI.

The Jaguars trailed 4-1 after the top of the second, but rallied with six in the third, three in the fourth, two during the fifth and one more in the sixth.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was pushed back due to weather. PJP is 1-4 this season.

NHS powers

past Zachary

In a battle of defending state champions, the Class 5A Northshore Panthers belted three home runs in a 14-2-five-inning victory over the three-time Class 4A state title-holder Zachary Broncos on the road Tuesday. NHS was 5-0 at Thursday’s press time.

The Panthers broke open a 5-2 game with nine runs in the fifth.

Kyle Deckwa, who also singled, hit his first high school home run, while Taylor Eads went deep for the third-consecutive game. Breck Kline homered and finished with three hits, while missing the cycle by only a triple, while scoring four times. All three players drove in three runs.

Siblings Chris and Ryan Eades each singled and posted two RBIs. Chase Compton logged a single and a run batted in. Trey Rickrode also had a hit.

Jacob Corbin (3-0) was the winning pitcher. He threw the first four innings, allowing two runs on four hits with five walks, two strikeouts and two hit batters.

Compton pitched a perfect fifth with two strikeouts.

PJP II goes 0-3

in tourney

Pope John Paul II’s Jaguars went 0-3 in the E.D. White Tournament held last Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Jaguars suffered a 9-3 loss to Belle Chasse.

Alex Ramirez doubled and drove in two runs, while Christian Grady had a hit and scored. Tim Turner and Matt Navarro each posted a hit for PJP.

Dustin Dampier (0-1) suffered the loss.

In Saturday’s first game, PJP fell to West Feliciana 13-7.

Blake Bonnaffons hit a solo home run and tallied twice, while Alex Ramirez doubled, drove in two and scored two runs. Christian Grady went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Andre Damiens collected two hits with a run batted in, while Matt Navarro posted two hits.

In the final game, the Jaguars lost 16-1 in five innings to the host team.

Greg Cavalier doubled and Alex Ramirez singled.
