Hannan goes 4-0 in Pearl River tournament

The Archbishop Hannan Hawks went 4-0 in the Pearl River Tournament, which was held Thursday-Saturday. The host team finished 2-1.

Hannan 4-1 on the season opened the tournament with a 15-1 seven inning victory over Pearl River as the Hawks belted out 14 hits.

The Hawks pitching staff allowed just three hits to the Rebels (3-1) with Christian Clark gaining the victory. Clark also collected two hits. Joey LaRocca went 2-4 with four runs batted in, while Mike Hess had two hits with a run batted in and scored twice for the Hawks. Andrew Arceneaux had a triple and scored three times.

Pearl River’s Alex Foil doubled, while Andro Cutura and Ryan Laughlin both singled. Beau Crawford’s sacrifice fly, which scored Laughlin netted PRHS’ only run.

Michael Beloso suffered the loss.

Hannan routed Amite 21-3 Thursday with LaRocca going 3-4 with three runs batted in and scored twice, while Dylan Manichia collected three hits with an RBI and scored three times. Arceneaux had a double with two runs batted in and scored three runs. Roger Tomberlin delivered a double, walked twice and drove in three runs, while scoring twice. Stuart Seiler doubled and drove in two runs and he also picked up the victory.

In Friday’s game, Hannan plated seven runs in the top of the first en route to a 7-2 victory over East Jefferson with Tomberlin gaining the win. Logan Booksh went 3-3 for the Hawks with a triple, a run batted in and scored once. Ben Condon drove in two runs and scored once. LaRocca continued his hot hitting collecting two hits with a run batted in.

Hannan kept up its offensive barrage in Saturday’s 17-4 victory over Independence as the Hawks scored 13 runs in the fifth inning after taking a 4-2 lead in the fourth.

LaRocca finished with two hits driving in two runs and scoring twice. Condon went 2-3 with an RBI and scored three times. Tomberlin drove in three runs with two hits and scored a run. Seiler (2-0) earned the victory.

Pearl River rebounded from its opening loss to Hannan and defeated Independence 6-5.

The Rebels trailed 4-0 and 5-2 before coming back for the victory late.

Adam Vignes went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs batted in. Vignes (1-0) also earned the victory, allowing four earned runs in five innings of work.

Pearl River’s only other hit came from Andro Cutura, who also drove in a run.

The Rebels coaxed eight walks and were hit three times.

On Saturday, Pearl River once again erased a big deficit, this time 8-2 and edged Amite 11-10.

Beloso nearly hit for the cycle, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and homer to go with four RBIs.

Laughlin finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Crawford reached base three times with a hit and two walks. He also scored and stole a base. Jordan Pinero was hit twice, scored two runs and swiped a bag.

Pinero (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief of Crawford. He went two innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
