Debra Baudin of Slidell didn’t think it could get any better when the Saints won the NFC Championship game last week, but things just got better.

Monday afternoon, Baudin found out she was the first winner in the area of the “Wheel of Fortune” and WVUE’s “$5K Everyday Sweepstakes” in which the television game show gives out $5,000 every day to a lucky “Wheel of Fortune” winner who can answer a designated puzzle. The contest ended Friday.

“I can’t believe I won,” said Baudin who works as a medical assistant at Ochsner Clinic. “I was really surprised.”

“$5K”, left, the spokesman for “Wheel of Fortune” presented a $5,000 check to Slidell resident Debra Baudin this week. Helping her hold all that money is her friend Trip Trepagnier. (Submitted Photo)

What really surprised Baudin were the television cameras at her front door Monday afternoon. She said that the “Wheel of Fortune” people called her up earlier to answer the puzzle questions. Then they told her they would be sending somebody over with an affidavit for her to sign.

When she opened the door there were lots of smiling people at her door along with television cameras.

“I’ve never won anything big before. This is really a shocker,” Baudin said.

She said that she would use the money for a trip. At first she thought of Miami and the Super Bowl to watch the Saints, but realized how hard it would be to get tickets. So she has decided to take a trip to St. Marten in the Caribbean, but after the Super Bowl of course.

“Everything good is happening now. First the Saints, and now this,” Baudin said.

Winning the money has another bonus for Baudin.

“I’ve become a celebrity overnight,” she said. Baudin said that wherever she goes, she is recognized as the winner on television.
