The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a shoplifter who allegedly stole an expensive camera from Lakeside Camera on N. Causeway Boulevard.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office said the theft took place around 6 p.m. Nov. 4. The suspect, an African-American male about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighting 230 pounds came into the store, walked behind a counter and took a Nikon D-700 camera off the shelf. He then walked to the front of the store, hid the camera near the door and continued to browse as if he were shopping. After awhile, he went to his hiding place, got the camera and left the store.

At first, the store’s employees didn’t notice what was going on, but then somebody saw it on the store’s video surveillance system. One of the staff went outside just in time to see the suspect leaving in either a white Avalanche or white Escalade vehicle.

At the time of the theft, the suspect was wearing a New Orleans Saints hat, blue jeans and an unknown color shirt.

Anyone with information on the theft or the suspect is urged to call Detective Allen McGuire at 898-2340.

" They were kind of joking on the news about him stealing from a camera store, since there would obviously, or at least most likely, be pictures and/or videos of him.

But if THIS is the best picture of him they could get, then quite possibly the joke is on the camera store. "
