Keep Slidell Beautiful has recently received word that it will be honored with a Second Place Affiliate Award at Keep America Beautiful 56th National Conference in Washington, D.C. December 4. The local program was selected for this award due to its outstanding efforts to engage individuals to improve their community environments.

According to Matthew McKenna, President & CEO of Keep America Beautiful, in a letter to Bill Mauser, Executive Director of Keep Slidell Beautiful, “Your organization is worthy of being recognized, for encouraging your local government, business and private citizens to work together to make your community a more beautiful, safer place to live. We congratulate you.”

Mayor Ben Morris and the Slidell City Council formed Keep Slidell Beautiful in 2005, an organization that aims to improve the quality of life in Slidell by focusing on litter prevention, beautification, community improvement and waste prevention, and according to the mayor, “Its programs have far exceeded expectations.”

In fact, national recognition is not something new for Keep Slidell Beautiful. In 2008, it was named “Top New Affiliate in the Country,” after becoming an official “Keep America Beautiful” affiliate in March 2007.
