District 7 Parish Councilman Al Hamauei will host a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Lacombe Community Center in John Davis Park, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and Twelfth Street in Lacombe.
All constituents from Lacombe, Mandeville, Abita Springs and Covington are invited to attend. Hamauei said that this would be the first town hall meeting in the new Community Center. Topics to be discussed are growth and development, traffic, transportation, drainage, law enforcement, and any other subject that interests the community.

The League of Women Voters of St. Tammany have rescheduled their meeting on the financial state of the parish to 5 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Parish Council Chambers on Koop Drive in Mandeville. The meeting had to be rescheduled due to the bad weather caused by Tropical Storm Ida Nov. 9. Panelists at the meeting include Parish President Kevin Davis, Sheriff Jack Strain, Assessor Patricia Schwarz Core, School Superintendent Gayle Sloan and Chiefs Larry Hess and Merrick Tassin, of Fire Control Districts One and Four respectively.
Strain will start things off with an overview of the sales and property tax collections for the year. The other panelists will give a brief summary of their finances, which will be followed by a question and answer session. LWV President Sandra Slifer urges people to bring in their written questions to be submitted to the panelists. Slifer also asks that everybody bring non-perishable food items for the Food Bank.
Northwest Study Area meeting
There will be another meeting to discuss the changes and recommendations to the Northwest Study Area, as part of the Unified Development Code. The meeting will be start right after the regular Planning Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 8, in the Parish Council Chambers on Koop Drive in Mandeville. The Northwest Study Area is bounded on the east by La. Highway 59, La. Highway 1082 and Isabel Swamp Road; on the north by Washington Parish; on the west by Tangipahoa Parish, and on the south by the Tchefuncte River and the highways La. 36 and U.S. 190.
This includes all the unincorporated property northwest of Abita Springs, including Folsom, Barker’s Corner, Lake Ramsey and north Covington. An agenda for the meeting and all the proposed amendments for the study area can be found at the Web site, www.stpgov.org/departments_planning_rezoning.php.
Parish taking applications for LIHEAP
The St. Tammany Parish Department of Community Action is now taking applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The LIHEAP helps low-income families with their utility bills. Senior citizens over 60, disabled individuals and households with children less than 5 years old will be given priority for the assistance. Anyone who received help with LIHEAP in 2009 will be ineligible until seven months have passed since the last day of assistance. Residents receiving public housing will have their utility allowance payment deducted from their LIHEAP payment. All applicants seen by appointment only on a first come first serve basis.
