St. Margaret Mary Church and School on Robert Boulevard in Slidell is where the action is this weekend at their annual Slidell Food and Fun Fest.

The festival is one of Slidell’s biggest and a favorite among Slidellians for a good reason, and that is all the great food, games and rides, plus a lot of great entertainment is booked.

There will be 12 food vendors cooking up everything from crawfish etouffé to fried green tomatoes.

There is also lots of live entertainment all weekend long. Tonight Luther Kent and Trick Bag start things off at 7 p.m., followed by New Orleans’ greatest R&B singer Irma Thomas.

Over the weekend, St. Margaret Mary School students will show their musical prowess with their school band, dance team and others. There will also be the Sgt. Pepper’s Beatles Tribute Band for the parents, and Mayor Ben Morris’ daughter Jenny Brooks will belt out country tunes.

The best thing about the whole affair is that there is free admission to all this fun.

The festival kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. and goes until 11 p.m. Saturday the gates open at 11 a.m. and the fun continues until 11 p.m., and on Sunday people can eat, play and listen to music from noon until 6 p.m.
