The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office could name this case as the reluctant bank robber.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Capt. George Bonnett, a homeless man walked into the Whitney Bank branch near the Intersection of Interstate 12 and Louisiana Highway 21 at 3 p.m. Wednesday and sort of tried to rob the bank.

Bonnett said John J. Boudreaux, 40, whose last known address is in Metairie, walked up to the teller and told her that he had a gun.

“The teller said he told her, ‘I’m here to rob the place,’” Bonnett said.

He also told the teller to hit the panic button that would call the police. The teller did what Boudreaux asked and Sheriff’s deputies arrived several minutes later.

Boudreaux was arrested for attempted first-degree armed robbery without incident.

Deputies searched Boudreaux but did not find any gun or other weapon.

Bonnett said Boudreaux is in the St. Tammany Jail and will be interviewed further. No bond has yet been set.
