Old affair leads to attempted murder of man in Pearl River

An argument between a Pearl River couple over a love affair that happened 15 years ago resulted in the husband being shot twice and his wife jailed on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

According to the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. George Bonnett, the incident started Tuesday afternoon at the Davis house at 37447 Earl Bennett Road in Pearl River, Connie Davis, 53 questioned her husband about an affair he had over 15 years ago. When Mr. Davis admitted to having the affair, Connie allegedly pointed a .410 gauge handgun at her husband and fired five times.

The gun, nicknamed “The Judge,” is a revolver capable of shooting shotgun shells, which were loaded with birdshot, Bonnett said. Mr. Davis was hit twice in the back as he tried to run away into his back yard. Connie Davis then got into her car and drove away.

After running outside, Mr. Davis notified co-workers with a two-way radio. Bonnett said the man did not have a cell phone with him. The husband’s co-workers then called 911.

When Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the house, they found a shaken Mr. Davis sitting in a swing in the front yard. He was taken to the St. Tammany Heart Hospital and released after treatment.

Bonnett said deputies located Connie Davis in her car on Gause Boulevard in Slidell a short time after the shooting. Deputies found a spent shotgun shell in her pocket and the gun on the front seat of the car. She was arrested without incident. Davis was booked with attempted second-degree murder and is in the St. Tammany Jail on a $75,000 bond.

" He found out the hard way that it's never just a matter of being a long time ago and I didn't leave you. Makes me laugh that a man would think that makes it okay. I'm glad she didn't kill him but I guess it's time he paid his debt to her. I don't condone shooting anybody but she did it and he didn't deserve to get away with it.

" Why is everyone pickin on me, I agree with Teresa. They should have gone after the Vice President, and to be honest, they should let Mrs Davis go. A cheaten no good husband is no good for no one.
Lets not forget the differences here, the Vice President was hunting with a bunch of white rich folks, who were probably overjoyed to just be in the company of the vice president, and Mrs Davis was sitting in a room with a loser. The VP's pals probably were pretecting him, and Mrs Davis's husband, well we all saw the story. "

Have you really never heard of criminal negligence?

If we accept St. Tammany's judgment that shooting someone with bird shot is life-threatening, then at the very least there should have been an investigation of the Cheney matter. "

" Sounds like that might just be hearsay, Nelly. Maybe the husband, who is the only one besides her who heard anything she or he may have said, could be putting out some good words for the prosecution of his wife.

This is clearly a miscarraige of justice. I would bet this was motivated by religious diverences, or maybe race, because the situations where these two incidents occured were so close that it is impossible to tell them apart. I feel sorry for this woman, because she was the good one in the marriage, and a very sweet person, but she must have felt she was pushed over the limit and just didn't care anymore.
