A former employee of the Southern Surgical Hospital was arrested on theft, gun and drug charges Thursday, and may face more charges after Slidell police found property allegedly stolen from the hospital in the man’s home.

Louis H. Summerlin, 40, 817 Pinetree St., Slidell is charged with theft, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to Slidell spokesman, Capt. Kevin Foltz, detectives, acting on a tip from someone who saw the alleged stolen property in Summerlin’s house, executed a search warrant on the Pinetree Street home Thursday afternoon.

During the search, Foltz said police found items that were determined to belong to the hospital. Among the items found were bed linens, a case of air conditioner filters, blue surgery towels, Southern Surgical Hospital pens, a flashlight, and SSH surgery caps.

During the search for the stolen property, police also found marijuana in several locations in the house. In the laundry room, detectives found marijuana next to a single action .357-caliber revolver.

The detectives also found a large collection of pornographic DVDs and magazines. Foltz said the pornography was turned over to the department’s Cyber Crimes Child Exploitation Unit, because some of the pornography had titles like “Barely Legal” and “Just Legal.” Foltz said the police want to find out if any of the pornography contains under age children.

Summerlin’s roommate Daniel A. Alderette, 31, was arrested along with Summerlin on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm while in possession of a CDS.

Foltz said Summerlin was a former employee of the hospital, but could not say how long the suspect worked there, or when he stopped working for the hospital.

Foltz said that there maybe more charges, because the hospital’s legal department is determining if further charges are warranted.

Both men were booked at the Slidell jail and transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where bond will be set.
