A Mandeville man is under arrest for a shooting incident Thursday morning that wounded his girlfriend.

Capt. Ron Ruple of the Mandeville Police Department reported that Samuel Pecot, 21, 3010 Pine St. Mandeville was arrested Friday on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and illegal use of a gun.

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Thursday when police got a report from a resident on Messina Street who hears gunfire. When police responded they didn’t find anyone.

Ruple said that the shooting victim reported to police at 3:30 p.m. that a bullet had grazed her leg earlier that day.

The woman told police that Pecot was outside his house on Pine Street arguing with two men and his girlfriend. Pecot had a 9mm pistol and allegedly fired it in the heat of the argument. Police determined the bullet ricochet grazed the girlfriend’s leg causing a large contusion. Ruple said that all four people immediately cleared the area after the gun went off, which is why police could not find anyone. Ruple said investigators worked all night and finally arrested Pecot on Friday. Police have not recovered the handgun, and Ruple said Pecot has not been forthcoming on where the gun is located.

“All he would tell us is that he disposed of the weapon,” Ruple said. “But he did say it was a 9mm.”

He said the victim was fine. Pecot was booked and taken to the St. Tammany Jail where a bond will be set.
