Suspected drug dealers picked up

Operation “Jingle Cells,” a Thursday morning sweep of wanted mid-level drug dealers, netted 33 new arrests and six additional charges for offenders already incarcerated in what Sheriff’s Office officials call a muzzle to violent crime.

Covington mayor vetoes own raise; Watkins compensation remains same

Covington Mayor Candace Watkins does not want a raise. The City Council voted her a raise from last year’s salary of $66,144 to $68,650, representing a 4 percent increase and a new car. Watkins had gone on record that she did not want a raise or the car, but the ordinance granting the raise was passed in November.

SJH principal named at school board meeting

Patrick Mackin, assistant principal of Carolyn Park Middle School, has been named the new principal of Slidell Junior High School. He replaces Brendan McCurley, who has assumed the principalship of the parish’s new high school.
