Four people died Saturday in two separate St. Tammany Parish area accidents, Louisiana State Police said.

Starting about 5 a.m. Saturday, a Mandeville man died when he flipped his Volvo on Interstate 12 near Louisiana Highway 59. More than seven hours later, at about 11:25 a.m., three elderly women died in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 near the Mississippi border.

“This is something you don’t want to see,” said Trooper Louis Calato, State Police Troop L spokesman, who added he personally knew two of the elderly victims. “It’s hard to deal with when you have two fatal crashes and four fatalities. I’ve always wondered if I would have to write about someone I knew. Now it’s come to pass.”

In the first accident, Vincent A. Oddo, 28, died when he lost control of his 1999 Volvo V70 and hit several trees on I-12, Calato said. Traveling westbound, Oddo’s left side tires drifted onto the shoulder, and he overcorrected to the right. The jerk launched the Volvo into a spin and sent it careering into a tree-lined ditch. The driver’s side smacked the trees and overturned, resting upside down in the ditch.

Oddo was pronounced dead at the scene, Calato said.

Two passengers, Mary Snyder, 22, of Pearl River, and Scott David, 21, of Lacombe, were both transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Alcohol or drug involvement is unknown. Toxicology tests are pending.

Later on Saturday, Sharon R. Braud, 60, of Meraux, was driving a 2004 Jeep eastbound on I-10 when she lost control, skidded through the median and drove into oncoming traffic in the westbound lane.

The Jeep smacked a 1999 Dodge pickup truck with its front fender and driver’s side door, sending it into a tailspin. The Dodge, driven by Thomas McKenzie, 65, of Arabi, flipped and came to rest upright in the westbound ditch.

Braud and a passenger, Anne Diaz, 91, of Violet, were pronounced dead at the scene, Calato said. A third passenger, Eugenia Fisher, 83, of St. Bernard, was transported by ambulance to Slidell Memorial Hospital, where she also died.
