Pearl River’s Lady Rebels came back from a two-game deficit to knock off East Jefferson, 24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17, 15-12, in a district match at home Tuesday.

PRHS (9-7) improved to 3-1 in district, while the Lady Warriors (2-9) fell to 1-3.

In the first game, the Lady Rebels took a 3-0 lead when Gabby Jeansonne put down one of her 11 kills, but the Lady Warriors came back and tied the game at 5-5. PRHS retook the advantage, 6-5, on a block by Jeansonne, who finished with five, to begin another 3-0 spurt.

East Jefferson responded by scoring three in a row and tying the game at 8-8. The Lady Rebels went up by four points on two different occasions, 13-9 and 17-13, with the last time forcing East Jefferson to call a timeout.

The move worked as the Lady Warriors ran off seven straight points and took a 20-17 lead.

PRHS came back and went on a 5-1 run to go up 22-21. East Jefferson made it 22-22, but the Lady Rebs tallied the next two points and had game point with a 24-22 advantage. East Jefferson scored the contest’s final four points to win, 26-24.

The second game started out like it would be all Pearl River as the Lady Rebels got out to a 7-1 lead, but the Lady Warriors responded by going on a 17-4 run and had an 18-11 lead.

Pearl River came back by getting six points in a row and trailed 18-17. The Lady Rebels caught East Jefferson and tied the game at 21-21, but this one went to the visitors, 25-23, and Pearl River found itself needing to win the next three games to take the match.

In the third game, East Jefferson jumped ahead 2-0, but Jeansonne got a kill, which started a five-point run for PRHS. Once again, the Lady Warriors continued to fight back and tallied the two then got down, 5-4, but that was the closest West Jefferson got.

Later in the game, Pearl River had a 12-10 advantage and then went on a 10-0 spurt, essentially putting the game away. The Lady Warriors were able to trim the lead to 23-13, but PRHS posted the next two points and won, 25-13.

In the third game, Pearl River took a 4-0 lead. Whitney Harris began with one of her six aces. East Jefferson scored the next three points and trailed 4-3, but a combination block by Jeansonne and Katie Wallace started a 9-1 run and PRHS led 13-4.

The Lady Rebels recorded the next two points, going up 15-5, then the Lady Warriors went on a spurt and were able to get the lead to 20-14. Jeansonne’s dink ended the run, and PRHS went on to win, 25-17.

In the final game, East Jefferson got ahead 4-1, but the Lady Rebels again posted eight points in a row and went up 9-4.

Pearl River ended up with a 14-8 cushion, but East Jefferson recorded the next four points, then the Lady Rebels were able to pull off the 15-12 win to capture the match.

“We got down a little bit, but your teammates are over there helping you get your head up and we came back together and we worked as a team to pull through,” Jeansonne said.

Caitlyn Harper finished with nine kills, five blocks and four aces, while Kim Treese posted 14 digs. Carly Jordan got 15 assists, while Taylor Peterson dished out 10. Harris added 15 digs for the Lady Rebels.

East Jefferson’s Olivia Stauffer led the Lady Warriors with 14 kills and six aces, while Jennifer Sarasuno had 15 assists to go with six aces. Kristen Kelly tallied 14 digs and 13 kills.
