I’m retired. I was tired yesterday, and I’m tired again today.

Don’t miss your chance to win $30,000 tomorrow night. There are still some tickets left for the Krewe of Dionysus Raffle Party in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. Donations are $100.

Things get underway at 7 p.m., and heck, even if you don’t win the big money you’ll enjoy an evening of good food, drink, music, and fun.

Can’t make it? Don’t worry about that either. Winner need not be present.

To purchase your ticket, phone Bobby Juge at 960-6369, Leo Schmitt at 847-1681, or Thomas Roberts at 445-7939.

A portion of the proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit local charities.

You’re also invited to the Slidell Elks Auxiliary annual fundraiser dance at the lodge off of Thompson Road tomorrow night. The music and dancing begins at 8 p.m. featuring the great sounds of Missy and Ray from Witness.

But get there at 7 p.m. and get yourself one of Wanda’s famous homemade hamburgers and some French fries for only five bucks in “Fifi’s Cafe.”

This year’s theme is “Parisian Holiday,” so don your can-can skirts and berets. “Pierre’s Tavern” will have drinks available for purchase, or you can BYOL.

Tickets are $7.50 per person, and tables of 10 are available. To reserve, phone Dawn Crippin at 641-5952 or 960-1899 or Geanette Catalanotto at 960-2375.

In his new book, “Just Play Ball,” Joe Garagiola tells of Pedro Ramos, a Cuban pitcher in the 1950s who learned English on his own. “I learn to say, ‘Come here,’ and the person understands,” Ramos said.

“And if you want the person to go over there?”

“I go over there and I say, ‘Come here.’”

If you don’t have any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.
