Eight polling locations in West St. Tammany were permanently moved Monday because the districts’ populations have grown too large for the precincts, parish officials said.

To accommodate the growth, parish government authorized the changes implemented for the Sept. 6, 2008, first party primary election for president.

Currently, roughly 1,700 to 1,800 voters are registered at the eight precincts, causing previous voting delays between 40 to 50 minutes, St. Tammany Parish Registrar of Voters Dwayne Wall said. While the legal limit at each precinct is 2,200, parish officials are taking a proactive approach to rearrange polling locations before it’s too crowded, he said.

Some voters will be forced to move to another polling location, “but we do it for the majority,” the parish said.

The changes are as follows:

Precinct 409: Big Branch Civic Club changed to Montleone Junior High School.

Precinct M02 and M03: Mandeville Community Center to Mandeville Elementary School.

Precinct M03: Mandeville City Hall to Mandeville Elementary School.

Precinct 401 and 402: Mandeville High School to Pontchartrain Elementary School.

Precinct 309 and 311: Now report to Northlake Christian Trinity Evangelical Church.

Precinct 418: Pontchartrain Elementary School to Grace Disciples Church.

Precinct 417: St. Tammany Parish government complex to Grace Disciples Church.

Precinct 413: Tchefuncte Middle School to Mandeville High School. Call the Registrar of Voters at 809-5500 for more information.
