Slidell police arrested a woman Saturday after she allegedly threatened her 14-month-old son with an 8-inch chef’s knife.

Bianca Sanders, 25, 302 Holmes Drive, Slidell, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile Capt. Kevin Foltz, police spokesman, said. Sanders is still waiting for a trial on a charge of attempted murder for a December 2007 incident.

Saturday morning, Slidell police got several 911 calls from neighbors on Middle Drive reporting a woman was holding a baby by its ankles while wielding a knife.

When police arrived at 2135 Middle Drive, they found Sanders in the front yard holding her baby. One police officer was able to talk Sanders into handing over the baby, while another officer recovered the knife that was on the ground next to Sanders.

Both Sanders and the infant were taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital for possible injury, but they were both found to be in good condition.

Sanders was arrested after she was released from the hospital, and the baby was turned over to a relative until Sanders’ parents could come in from Texas, Foltz said.

Police do not know why Sanders was so upset. The officers on the scene said Sanders was muttering words that made no sense.

She was taken to St. Tammany Parish Jail and released on a $20,750 signature bond, Foltz said. He does not know if Sanders returned to her home.

In December 2007 Sanders was arrested for attempted murder. Police said she allegedly attacked a woman with a knife in the 500 block of Beechwood Street. According to police, both women got into an argument over a man who is allegedly the father of both their children. The victim was uninjured by the knife attack. When the victim tried to run away, Sanders allegedly got into her car and tried to run down the woman but only managed to hit the victim’s car and a trash can. Sanders sped off but was stopped and arrested by police later that day on U.S. Highway 190 and Sunset Drive. Sanders was released from the St. Tammany Parish Jail in that case on a $75,000 bond.

" People like this continue to be released from jail because of Commissoner Gleason allowing such a violent offender out on a signature bond. this is terrible. Why dont we have people making better decisions than this. what a joke. let her hurt a child and then release her the next day to go home to him "

" Hopefully this woman will stay in jail now. It's obvious she has serious mental issues and doesn't belong out on the streets. "
