Retif Oil (Jesuit) topped Peake BMW (St. Paul’s), 8-2, Wednesday at Heap Field. Peake BMW (12-8) was limited to four hits. Nick Bowers went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Patrick Huval and Christian Spansel collected the other hits. Starter Ryan Hickman (3-2) went four and two-third innings and suffered the loss.

Peake BMW finishes the regular season with a 7-3 division record and will host the winner of LLOG Exploration (Mandeville High) and Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) on Saturday in the West Division playoffs at Heap Field. At press time, both teams finished tied for third place at 6-4, and were scheduled to have a playoff game on Thursday at MHS to determine the third place team, which would face Peake BMW.
In Tuesday’s game played at Heap Field, with the game tied 1-1 after four innings, Peake BMW pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Peake’s Eric Guidry and Patrick Huval both went 3-for-4. Guidry drove home two runs and also scored twice, while Huval had an RBI.
Trent, Peake BMW’s starter, went four innings allowing one run on one hit. He struck out five and walked four. Robichaux (4-0) relieved him, going the final three innings to earn the victory. He gave up three runs on two hits. At the plate, Robichaux went 1-for-2 with two RBIs including a sacrifice fly. Christian Spansel contributed two runs batted in and scored once. Nick Bowers tallied two runs for Peake BMW and Drew Francis scored once.
Peake BMW coach Mick Nunez said it was a good team effort.
“We hit the ball well with that big fifth inning. I was happy with Christian’s (Trent) performance on the mound. It was a good effort by both of our pitchers,” Nunez said.
Post 16’s Jeffry Joiner hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh, scoring Cory Ricks ahead of him, who had reached on a fielder’s choice. Jourdon Taylor picked up an RBI double in the fourth inning, while Bo Tedesco contributed an RBI single in the seventh, plating Corey Galloway, who had walked. Galloway (3-1), who started, took the loss going four innings. He allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits. He struck out three and walked one. Chuckie Humphries pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits. American Legion Post 16 (9-14) finished with a 3-7 record in West Division play.
Pevey Realtors trim LLOG Exploration
Pevey Realtors (Ponchatoula High) edged LLOG Exploration (Mandeville High), 7-6, Tuesday in a key American Legion West Division game played at Ponchatoula. Both clubs finished the regular season at 6-4 tied for third place in the West Division. At press time, the teams were scheduled to meet yesterday at Mandeville High, which won the coin toss.
In Tuesday night’s game, Pevey Realtors’ starter Elisha Settoon (5-1) went five innings to earn the victory. Reliever Dylan Hills went the final two innings to pick up his third save of the summer. Settoon also led the Pevey attack, going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Laramie Pittman delivered two hits and drove in three runs, while Dylan Meyers had two hits with two runs batted in.
The game was tied 5-5 after two innings. Pevey (13-11) took a 6-5 lead with a run in the bottom of the third before adding another run in the fourth. LLOG Exploration (11-6) cut the lead to 7-6 with a run in the top of the fifth before falling short. Lee Batchelder (3-3) was tagged with the loss. He went six innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on 13 hits. He posted three strikeouts and hit a batter.
LLOG Exploration coach Matt Brown said both clubs hit the ball well. LLOG Exploration banged out 14 hits, while Pevey generated 13. Brown said his club left too many runners stranded on base.
“We left 10 runners on base in the first four innings, including leaving the bases full in the first and second innings alone,” Brown said.
Eight LLOG Exploration players had hits led by left fielder Thomas Anderson, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored along with a stolen base. Blake Butera opened the game with a leadoff homer over the left field fence. Third baseman Joey Pajares went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a stolen base. Ryan Lassus had two hits with two RBIs, while John Wenzel added two hits and scored a run. Catcher Josh Goodwin delivered a fourth inning triple.
Knights 18s edge Southland Hogs
The Louisiana Knights 18s slipped past the Southland Hogs, 4-3, in nine innings Tuesday in a game played at Southeastern Louisiana University upping their season record to 31-7. Shortstop Garrett Cannizaro, a verbal commitment to Tulane University, went 2-for 4 with a run batted in and Brandon Boudreaux went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Knights’ offense. Cannizaro, batting .368, tops the Knights with 27 runs batted in, and is tied for the club lead with 29 runs. Ross Barbier went 1-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch, scoring three runs. Barbier has also scored 29 runs, and is the club’s leading hitter with a .394 average. Troy Patterson was credited with an RBI. Starter Matty Ott went four innings. Reliever Ross Hardy tossed three innings allowing one hit to pick up his first victory of the summer. He has a 2.52 earned run average. Ryan Eades hurled one inning, retiring the three batters he faced to record his first save.
Knights 17s blast past White Sox
Wes Luquette ripped a two-run homer in the first inning and was supported by Colt Bruhl and Daniel Brockhoeft going yard with solo shots in the fifth inning Tuesday to propel the Louisiana Knights 17s past the Baton Rouge White Sox, 5-4, in a game played at Walker High in Baton Rouge. Chad Gough-Fortenberry also delivered an RBI single in the first inning scoring Bruhl who opened the inning with a single. Starter Kyle Blancaneaux (4-2, 2.81 ERA) went six innings for the victory.
He allowed one earned run on four hits. He recorded five strikeouts but struggled with his control giving up seven walks. Robert Boudreaux earned the save, pitching the final inning. The Knights 17s upped their record to 19-11. The Knights 17s have beaten the Baton Rouge White Sox three times in four games this summer.
Knights 17s’ head coach Chris Pool said he was proud of his team’s effort against the White Sox whose roster is filled with players who will be playing ball in college.
Pool said it was nice getting three homers in the victory.
“Those three guys (Bruhl .415 average, Luquette .325 and Brockhoeft .319) are all good hitters, and have been swinging pretty hot bats. I hope that continues during the remainder of the summer,” Pool said.
