The USSSA games, will feature children ages 6-14 from Louisiana and surrounding states including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas.

Competition begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow and will be played throughout each day. The teams will play two pool games beginning tomorrow. Those match ups will lead to a double elimination tournament beginning Wednesday. More than 100 teams are expected to participate in this championship.

The squads competing in the tournament qualified by winning their state regionals.

The cost to attend the competition is $7 per person per day or you can buy a pass, which is $25 for the week.

The opening ceremonies will take place today in Pelican Park’s Castine Center. There will be a Mardi Gras themed parade and a seven-piece brass band. Director of Sales and Special Events for the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission Todd Whalley said he is expecting a crowd between 2,000 and 2,500 people to attend the opening ceremonies. There is no cost and the parade is open to family and friends of participants competing in the World Series.

Whalley said he is looking forward to this week.

“This has been two years in the making. I’m just so excited,” Whalley said. “The summertime was our slow period and now it’s one of the busiest and it’s all because of people like this bringing big business into the area.”
