As part of the Space Flight Awareness Program, Phillips focused on legal issues involved in the safety of human space flight. The recognition and certificate is a testament to Phillips’ dedication to quality work and flight safety. To win the award, a person must contribute beyond their normal work load that will increase space flight safety, provide cost saving and be instrumental in developing material that increases reliability, efficiency and performance.

Phillips and 12 other Stennis employees were recognized for their efforts and were all flown to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to watch the recent launch of the space shuttle Discovery.
