A former Slidell policeman was arrested and charged with domestic abuse battery Wednesday afternoon, one day after resigning from his post as a patrol officer, authorities said.

Martin Krey, 30, 431 Eden Isled Blvd., was arrested by Sheriff’s Office deputies after nearly a monthlong investigation into a domestic spat with his estranged wife on March 20, Capt. George Bonnett, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.

Krey was booked into St. Tammany Parish Jail on domestic abuse battery and child endangerment charges following the incident that also involved his mother, Bonnett said. The child endangerment charge was added because his child was present during the altercation, Bonnett said.

Investigators responded to the altercation that occurred when the estranged couple exchanged their child for visitation, Bonnett said. At the time, investigators could not unearth enough evidence to make an arrest. But after obtaining additional witness testimony, probable cause was established for the arrest of Krey, his estranged wife and Krey’s mother.

Krey’s wife and mother, who Bonnett declined to name, were each issued summons arrest for simple battery against each other.

No weapons were used during the fight, Bonnett said.

“It’s a shock to all of us to see one of our former employees arrested,” said Capt. Kevin Foltz, spokesman for Slidell Police Department.

Krey, a patrol officer, served on the Slidell police force for less than a year, Foltz said. Prior to that he served as a fireman for St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District 1 in Slidell, Foltz said.

It was unclear why Krey resigned, but its possible he was aware of his pending arrest, Foltz said.
