New commercial development will continue to be allowed in Folsom.

At the April 14 Board of Aldermen Meeting, after passing an ordinance that bans prefabricated modular homes until further notice, Alderman Charles Wilt introduced an ordinance that would ban any new businesses from being constructed inside village limits.

His reasoning was to halt further construction until the village’s first comprehensive plan was completed and zoning issues were worked out.

But after a public hearing before Monday night’s meeting, Aldermen Phillip Bickham and Ronald Holliday voted against Wilt’s ordinance, ultimately removing it from the agenda. But according to Mayor Marshell Brumfield, the ordinance would not have passed in the first place because it was not properly introduced as a written document.

Also at the meeting:

• The village’s 2008-09 budget was introduced for review before being voted on at next month’s meeting.

• The board voted to annex the portion of land occupied by Spencer’s Feed and Seed located at 83103 Louisiana Highway 25.

• City Planner Stephen Villavaso made a surprise visit to showcase some of his progress thus far concerning the village’s comprehensive plan. The next phases in the plan is to have aerial photos conducted of the village and to coordinate individual appointments with village residents to discuss personal zoning issues.
