Century Wilshire, Inc., a Culver City, Calif.-based luxury hotel chain, announced a $9 million plan this week to renovate Holiday Inn south of Covington.

Plans calls for 28 new permanent jobs to man the hotel on Louisiana Highway 190 once it’s transformed into a full-service, upscale facility complete with a new conference center. It’s unclear how long construction will last. Century Wilshire officials did not return repeated phone calls seeking comment.

“The Northshore area has seen sizable growth since Hurricane Katrina, and its residents will likely put to good use a facility at which they will have the ability to host a variety of functions,” said James W. Parks II, president and CEO of the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority, a bond financing company that helped close the $9 million bond sale for Century Wilshire Inc.

The renovations will be the first improvements made to the hotel since 2000.
