Former Covington Mayor Keith Villere will throw the first pitch at the new Covington Recreation facility Saturday at 10 a.m.

The ribbon cutting for the facility will be followed by the first game at the new complex located off the U. S. Highway 190 Bypass, or Ronald Reagan Highway, near Erin Drive.

Current Mayor Candace Watkins said Villere was instrumental in getting the facility built. In addition to the ribbon cutting and first pitch, other celebrations are planned for the facility on Saturday.

The new scoreboards will be lit for the first time. A contract with the Louisiana Coca-Cola Bottling Co. has been reached to pay for the scoreboards. In return, Coke will have exclusive rights to sell on the premises for four years.

The mayor and City Council will sponsor a contest to name the new facility.

As of yet, a name has not been designated, so the community will have a chance to get involved in the naming process.

In acquiring signage for the highway, the DOTD must be contacted, and they will place the green directional sign with the name of the park.
