Board members of the largest antique boat association in the country are holding their quarterly meeting at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum in Madisonville for the first time today.

The Antique and Classic Boat Society’s national board of directors will hold their closed-door meeting today inside the museum, but tomorrow they will cruise the straits of the Tchefuncte River in, fittingly so, antique water crafts provided by several members of the Bayou Chapter of the ACBS.

Alan Fortier, president of the Bayou Chapter, said there will be about 20 board members, some from as far away as Canada, in town to take the tour of the Tchefuncte tomorrow morning on several classic crafts, including his 1947 Jeffrey, which sports a triple cockpit.

He also said the public is welcomed to visit the riverfront to witness some of the oldest boats on the river around 1 p.m.

The ACBS is an international organization headquartered in Clayton, N.Y., with a member base of 9,000 whose primary goals are to preserve, restore and appreciate classic wooden vessels.
