New DARE officer joins MPD

The Mandeville Police Department recently welcomed new DARE officer Darren Powell to Mandeville.

Mandeville has four full-time officers and one part-time officer assigned to the schools teaching DARE and working as school resource officers.

Chief Tom Buell said, “In a combination of grant funds and School Board funding, we are able to work together with our school to keep our schools safe and teach drug prevention.”

Powell has 10 years of experience as a police officer and is certified to teach DARE in fifth and seventh grades.

He is currently teaching in the Mandeville schools.
