Beginning with just one restaurant in Hammond, owner Saul Rubio has progressively infiltrated southeast Louisiana’s palate with the development of five more locations scattered throughout the area, including the February opening of its Mandeville restaurant at 1200 Causeway Approach.
Other locations include LaPlace, Amite, Baton Rouge and two in Hammond.

The newest location’s exterior in the 1200 Place shopping center conforms with the façade of the surrounding stores but looks can be deceiving.
Upon entering, the neutral, khaki stucco transforms into a world of Spanish delight with rich, vibrant colors and busy patterns flooding the open dining room.
Flat-screen televisions and culturally rich pictures adorn the walls. The full-service bar tucked out of the way also helps maintain the spacious environment of the restaurant.
The menu includes the many Mexican dishes on the lunch and dinner menu with prices per entrée no more than $15.
Rubio said business had been steady so far, but he expects it to increase once more people discover his restaurant.
He also said he has no plans of expanding his fleet any further this year, so residents in eastern St. Tammany will have to wait before they obtain their own La Carreta.
Mayor Eddie Price said this is a special addition to Mandeville.
“They made a serious investment in Mandeville, and it’s a great addition,” he said. “The appearance is great and the food is fantastic.”
La Carreta takes the place of Carretas, also a Mexican restaurant, that closed for unknown reasons.
