A St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted six area residents this week, including a teenager for vehicular homicide and two others for aggravated rape.

In its first case Tuesday, the jury indicted Johnnie Bleker, 18, of Slidell for the Aug. 26, 2007, negligent homicide death of Kathryn Lesley, 16, of Pearl River, said Rick Wood, spokesman for District Attorney Walter Reed.

Lesley was a passenger in Bleker’s unidentified truck traveling southbound on Interstate 59 when he lost control, veered into the medium and flipped, landing upside down in the northbound lane.

Lesley was ejected, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Tammany Parish Assistant Coroner Angel Galloway.

As the truck landed in the lane of oncoming traffic it also struck a small car driven by Lisa W. Cahill, 21, Picayune, Miss., State Police spokesman Louis Calato said. A third vehicle, an SUV driven by Samantha Vandrell, 38, of Carriere, Miss., smacked the flying debris, Calato said.

Three other unidentified passengers in Bleker’s truck were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

If convicted, Bleker faces up to five years in prison.

In other indictments this week, five area men were charged with sexual crimes, most against children under 13, a crime that could lead to the possible death penalty under Louisiana law. Because of the nature of the crimes, Wood refused to elaborate on many details.

Robert Friday, 45, of Pearl River, accused of sexual attacking a boy twice a week for nearly two years, was indicted on a charge of aggravated rape, a capital crime that, if convicted, could send him to death row.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Friday on Jan. 17 after the alleged victim told a social worker the victim was attacked for one and a half years, stopping in 2004 when the child was 11.

A Sheriff’s Office investigation followed, and Friday’s computer was seized, producing another indictment Tuesday on 300 counts of pornography involving a juvenile.

The arrest of Friday produced a flood of news headlines, prompting one other victim to come forward, Wood said Thursday.

That victim, now 26, was 14 at the time Friday allegedly abused her, resulting in five other charges filed by the grand jury, including attempted forcible rape and three counts of molestation of a juvenile.

Others indicted were:

Dago Mencias, a 31-year-old illegal alien from Honduras living in Mandeville, on a charge of aggravated rape because he was one of many aggressors involved in an alleged rape, Wood said. Mencias fled the area after the Nov. 5, 2005, incident and was arrested by State Police on Jan. 28 during a traffic stop.

Roy Perry, 19, for molestation of a juvenile. Perry, who was arrested in December by Slidell Police, was investigated when the alleged victim told her father about the abuse in May 2007, Wood said.

Dwayne Callahan, 45, of Mandeville, on one count of sexual battery and two counts of molestation of a juvenile. The charges, all with victims under 13, include three different victims who told their parents and a counselor who informed authorities. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Callahan in January.

A 39-year-old Folsom man, on charges of aggravated incest following a November 2007 arrest for the June incident. Case specifics were not revealed. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
