A head-on collision in Lacombe Saturday evening resulted in a Lacombe man’s death and another’s arrest.

It happened at 7:43 p.m., when police say a 2004 Nissan Murano, driven by Vincent Guidera, 43, crossed the center line while traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 190. He struck a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck, driven by Stanley W. Rogillo, 38, also of Lacombe.

Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the crash, as did members of Fire Protection District 3, who made efforts to extricate Guidera.

“The front end was compacted into the driver’s compartment,” said District 3 Chief Chuck Flynn. “We basically had to pull apart the vehicle to get him out.”

Guidera lost consciousness during the extrication. Rescue personnel attempted to revive him and transported him to Louisiana Heart Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Rogillo refused treatment for his injuries and left the scene of the accident. After an extensive manhunt, he was found hiding under a bed at the home of his mother. Returned to the scene, Rogillo was arrested by St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving under a suspended license and resisting an officer.

Police suspect Guidera may have been impaired as well and are awaiting toxicology reports. Rogillo remains held without bond at the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
