Families with children of all ages enjoyed the Easter holiday in Lacombe Saturday at the EGG-stravaganza. Children and parents alike enjoyed the perfect weather with music from Papillion, hamburgers and hot dogs, an Easter egg hunt, Easter bonnet and Easter basket decorating contests and a petting village.

The grounds of Sacred Heart Church was the setting for the event held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. due to construction at the John Davis Memorial Park.

The results of the best decorated Easter Bonnet contest are: first place, the butterfly hat, London Abadie; second place, the Louisiana crab bonnet, Glenda Drumm; and third place, the bunny hat with pink hair attached, Hailey Brown.

The Easter Basket contest winners were: first place, Kourtney Hutchison with a purple basket containing a live chick; and second place, Brandon Abadie with camouflage eggs.

Prize winners received special Easter baskets from the Easter Bunny filled with goodies.

In addition, live bunnies provided by Jerry Ruiz were on hand for petting at the village set up by Sky Lala, who also provided chicks and ducks for the occasion. Housing in the village included a church and plantation-style mansion with columns, along with other houses and shops.

While everyone stood in line for food, Papillion continued entertaining and invited those waiting to sing along. During his performance, he donned a pirate hat more than once and told his “mateys” that he was “tryin’ to stop the plunderin’ of the earth — AARG!” Many of the “mateys” attending the event joined with him in playing instruments and games.

Spokesperson for the event, Lisa Maddox, said Parish President Kevin Davis sponsored the event along with Parish Councilman Al Hamauei, the parish government, Tammany Trace Foundation, St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs, Recreation District No. 4 and PepsiAmericas. She added the event was very well attended.
