BI-PAC sponsors contest for new logo

Published on Monday, March 3, 2008 9:20 AM CST

The newly-formed Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Committee, or BI-PAC, needs a logo, and the group is sponsoring a contest open to all residents of St. Tammany Parish to come up with a design that will help promote Bi-PAC's goal of creating bike paths that will connect east and west St. Tammany Parish.

BI-PAC founder, Sue deRada, said the winner of the contest will receive a $100 gift certificate from Academy Sports, plus the logo will be used on all of BI-PAC's correspondence, T-shirts, flyers, programs and other items.

DeRada said the contest is open to all residents in the parish, and that artists may submit as many entries as they want. The deadline for submission is April 15. Judging of the entries will be April 30, and BI-PAC will announce the winner on May 14.

The logo must contain a recognizable St. Tammany scene, with bicycle riders and walkers in the design.

The entries can be in any medium that will create a crisp, clean image suitable for silk-screening. The image must be submitted on 8- by 10-inch paper.

On the back of each entry, tape a label that includes name, age, address and contact information.

Entries can be submitted at the Cutting Up salon at 450 Brownswitch Road, or the Slidell Art League located on the second floor of the Slidell Train Station at 1827 Front St.

The winning entry will become the property of BI-PAC.
