A case involving a lot that was short of a foot from meeting the required depth requirement in the current zoning area came before the Covington Board of Adjustment on Monday. Shelly and Gerardo Gallardo's two lots on 17th Avenue were being combined and resubdivided. As a result, the new lot was required to be 140 feet or 90 percent to 125 feet . Their lot fell a foot short of the requirement. A variance was granted by the BOA in a 5-0 vote.

Carl Perkins, vice-chairman of the BOA, has been appointed as a public defender. As a result, he contacted the state ethics board to see if such an appointment would create a conflict of interest. City attorney Deborah Foshee said the ethics board verbally confirmed that the appointment does not create a conflict of interest, and written confirmation from the board is expected soon.
BOA members Phyllis Gremillion and Leonard White completed their training and are now certified as planning commissioners.
