Youth Truth Inc. board members and staff welcomed representatives of the Northshore Community Foundation, who presented a $20,000 grant to the mental health and substance abuse agency on Feb. 15.

Despite the fact that its facility was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, YouthTruth inherited 84 new clients from the regional Louisiana Office of Addictive Disorders after the storm.

Since then the agency has struggled to provide teen- and family-friendly treatment services in its cramped temporary facility.

"Our existing clients at the time of the storm knew what had been lost," said YouthTruth Board Chair d'Andrea Chatman. "The newer clients only see the clinical setting we have here, and don't realize this is not all we want to provide for them."
