Slidell police are asking the community for any information on a burglary of the First Pentecostal Church on Robert Boulevard last Sunday that occurred while the congregation was performing Sunday services.

According to police, services began at 10 a.m. Sunday, and the offering plates were passed among the congregation. After the plates were collected they were locked in the pastor's office.

Between 11 and 11:30 a.m. the office doors where broken into and the monetary offerings were stolen. Police believe the burglars gained entrance into the church's offices by prying the door lock with a screwdriver, which was found at the scene. The burglars then kicked in the door to the pastor's office, stole the money and fled.

A witness in the church parking lot told police that two white males, possibly in their early 20s, drove into the lot in a small red truck of unknown make and model and entered the church around 11 a.m. The witness did not know which door the suspects used to enter the church. The witness said the two men then came out of the church about 20 minutes later and left in the truck.

Police are asking residents who have any information on the burglary to call Detective Keith Bowman at (985) 201-1972, or to call CrimeStoppers at (504) 822-1111 or 1-800-903-7867. CrimeStoppers will not ask for your name, or to testify. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest and indictment of the people responsible for the burglary.
