There's a new marshal in town.

Last week, Slidell City Court Judge Jim Lamz administered the oath of office to new Deputy Marshal Jimmie Estes, 59, who will be working under City Court Marshal Wyatt Williams.

Estes is no stranger to law enforcement. He recently retired as captain with the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office, where he served as Captain of Special Operations. Before that, Estes was Captain of Criminal Patrol. He is a resident of Slidell.

Estes graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.

He is the reciepient of many awards and commendations, including the Medal of Honor and Medal of Merit. He was also selected as Deputy of the Year in 1994.

The office of the City Court Marshal is responsible for executing the legal orders of the court, according to Williams. The Court Marshal provides security for the courthouse, serve legal summons issued by the court, and provides security transport of juveniles to and from the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center.

Williams said an increased workload due to security needs in the courthouse and a "significant growth," in the amount of legal summons that must be served were the reasons for creating a new deputy marshal position. Before Estes was hired, Williams was in charge of three deputy marshals.

"With Deputy Estes, we now have more than 150 years of combined law enforcement experience for all the deputy marshals and myself," Williams said.
